It is the former residence of the Ito family, a wealthy family in the area. This house houses the family's art collection and some traditional houses have been placed in the garden. The museum traces the 250-year history of the Ito family and wishes to continue to pass on their history and culture to the local people of Niigata, as well as to international visitors. The garden, around a pond designed by the famous gardener Taiami Tanaka, is really beautiful.
