TEMPLE MYOSHOJI
Myoshoji Temple is the place where Nichiren, the founder of the Nichiren School exiled to Sado, resided during his hermitage. He was a Buddhist monk and philosopher of the Kamakura period. He was persecuted and settled here and spent about two years before he was pardoned in 1274. Nichiren perfected the doctrine of the Nichiren School by writing the Kanjinhonzonsho ("The object of devotion for the observation of the mind"). This temple is therefore a sacred place for the Nichiren School of Buddhism. There is a hall dedicated to Nichiren and a beautiful 5-story pagoda.
