Discovered in 1601, Sado Kinzan has been a very important place of gold and silver production. The mine played a considerable role on the economy, attractiveness and culture of the island. It ceased its activities in 1989. It is now a museum. Visitors can learn about the working conditions of the miners and admire the tools that contributed to the industrialization of the country. Some tunnels are open to the public and guided tours are possible.
