The original castle was built in 1601 by Masamune. It was located on a naturally fortified site by cliffs. The castle was supposed to defend and repel the attacks of the shōgun Ieyasu Tokugawa. Unfortunately, the building no longer exists: only ruins remain. When visiting the site, you can admire the reconstruction of the watchtowers (sumi-yagura). The view on Sendai is splendid. You can also visit the museum on the site.
