SAIKAN
This shukubō (monk's night), located at the top of Haguro-san, offers beautiful views of the Shōnai plain. It welcomes visitors from all over the world and offers them a taste of shojin cuisine, the monks' vegetarian cuisine, based on naturally grown mountain vegetables. The comfort is spartan but the change of scenery is total. You will sleep in futons on tatami mats, in an Olympian calm, and you will wash yourself in the public baths. It is an experience to be done once during a trip to Japan. It is better to book.
