Designated a National Historic Site by the Japanese government, this temple was founded over 1200 years ago. It is part of the Tendai Buddhist sect. It was established directly at the foot of a high rock formation. The main image of the place is a stone image of Bishamon-ten, which stands directly against the rock, concealing a cave where sacred relics are secretly kept. The present structure was rebuilt in 1961.
