This shrine was built in 1680 by the 29th feudal lord Shigenobu Nanbu. The god who is dedicated there is worshipped by the inhabitants since the ancient times as the god of agriculture, industry, trade and learning. The present shrine was rebuilt as Shin-Hachimangu Shrine in 1997. It is also the scene of many festivities throughout the year such as the Donto festival, the Setsubun festival and the annual festival in mid-September, which attracts many visitors around the floats.
