The museum is built in red bricks in neo-colonial style and its metal roof tries to imitate thatched roofs. A large collection of objects from the Ashina family, featuring lacquer objects, silk clothing, pottery and crafts of the period when Kakunodate was still the pale reflection of a small Tōkyō. A special ticket allows you to visit the museum, the Ishiguro house and the Hirafuku museum (modern Western and Japanese art).
