It is one of the three biggest festivals in the Tohoku region, and has been a feature of the Japanese summer for 300 years now. On the first day, the opening ceremony takes place, and from August 2 to 6, visitors are amazed by the nightly processions during which beautiful illuminated paper floats are paraded through the city surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of dancers. The evenings are very festive. The festival ends on August 7 with a memorable fireworks display. This spectacular event always attracts more and more people.
