Anrakuji is the oldest Zen temple in Nagano and the only Zen temple in Japan with a three-story octagonal pagoda, a Japanese national treasure since 1952. It is therefore the last octagonal pagoda in the country (they could be found in Kyoto and Nara before they were destroyed). Built in the Kamakura period, it nevertheless keeps a Chinese Song style. The best view of the structure is from the back, when you climb the hill. The originality of this temple deserves a visit during a stay in the village.
