The beautiful Joraku-ji temple is famous for its thatched roof. It was established in the early 9th century by the senior monk Jikaku Daishi of the famous Entyakuji Temple in Kyoto. In the museum, one can see ema (votive plaques). The paintings, known as nikuhitsu ukiyo-e, were made by Hokusai, i.e. custom-made at the request of a particular client. Don't miss the 13th century stone pagoda behind the temple. It is considered an important cultural asset of Japan.
