Matsumoto Mingei-kan is a museum of folk crafts founded in 1962 by Taro Maruyama, the owner of a craft shop. It houses a collection of about 6,000 objects from the Mingei movement of the Taisho period (1912-1926), which introduced the idea of the beauty of basic necessities into objects used for manual labor. In 1983, the building was donated to the city and is now an integral part of its cultural landscape.
