Fukushima Sekisho was a checkpoint on the Nakasendo. It was considered to be one of the four largest checkpoints in Japan together with Hakone, located on the Tokaido Road. The checkpoint, whose gate and buildings have been restored to their original state, has become a site of historical interest and a museum has been established there (with exhibits such as materials and weapons related to the checkpoint). The Fukushima Sekisho was designated a National Historic Site in 1979.
