Located a few minutes walk from the Takayama Matsuri Yatai Kaikan, this exhibition hall offers a collection of over 800 lion masks (shishi) and musical instruments from all over Japan. The oldest ones date back to the Kamakura period. This exhibition of lion masks is the only one of its kind in Japan and has been designated as an important Japanese material folk cultural property. You will also be able to see some mechanical dolls (karakuri ningyō) and perhaps even witness their handling.
