The main annual festival in Kanazawa commemorates the entry of the Daimyō Toshiie Maeda into Kanazawa Castle. The main interest of this festival is to experience the procession of a Daimyō as it existed in the Edo period. It also celebrates the first time the region's rice production reached one million koku (about 150,000 tons). The festivities continue for two days after the parade. In the evening, more than 10 000 dancers in summer kimonos animate the streets with the sound of drums and flutes.
