OYAMA SHRINE
The shrine was built in 1599. It is dedicated to the first Maeda, Toshiie Maeda. The three-storey high shrine gate, designed by the Dutch, is enriched with coloured stained glass windows that served as a lighthouse for fishermen and other sailors. The gate is a unique blend of traditional Japanese, Chinese and European religious architectural elements. It has been part of the important cultural heritage of Japan since 1875. Its beautiful garden is arranged around a pond with an artificial island and a bridge.
