It is the main shrine among about 3,000 Hakusan shrines in Japan. The worshippers worship Mount Hakusan as a sacred mountain. It is said to have been established in 91 BC by Emperor Sujin, the first of the Yamato court to rule a unified Japan. Rare items unique to this Shintō mountain cult can be seen in the treasure pavilion. Not to be missed is the Otsuitachi matsuri festival which is a matsuri held every first of the month.
