It is the main shrine among some 3,000 Hakusan shrines in Japan. The faithful worship Mount Hakusan as a sacred mountain. It is said to have been established in 91 BC by Emperor Sujin, the first of the Yamato court to rule a unified Japan. In the treasure pavilion, you can see rare items specific to this Shintō mountain cult. Don't miss the Otsuitachi matsuri festival, held every first of the month.
