Keisaburō Ohara (1880-1943) was a great textile industrialist. He built the first museum of Western art in Japan. In the main building, works by great Western artists (Matisse, Renoir, Picasso, Monet, El Greco...) can be seen, and in the annexes, superb collections of ceramics and handicrafts. The well-developed collection also includes paintings from the Italian Renaissance as well as from the Dutch and Flemish schools. The museum shop offers beautiful books and reproductions.
