Buddhist temple of the Shingon school founded by Prince Shōtoku Taishi and rebuilt by Takauji Ashikaga. The temple is the first to be visible from the channel as one enters Onomichi Harbor. It has a beautiful Tahō tō (pagoda, literally tower with many directions) and a remarkable main building, as well as a tea pavilion. They have been classified as national treasures. From the Okunoin at the top of the mountain, visitors can go to the observatory to enjoy the view of Onomichi City, Onomichi Suido and the Setouchi Archipelago.
