It is one of the few architectural testimonies of the August 1945 disaster. Following the explosion, a few buildings, including the Genbaku Domu, were still standing, although partially destroyed. During the reconstruction of the city, it was decided to preserve this single building as a reminder of this tragic event. This vestige, which was originally the former palace of industrial development, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

Only building that is still standing in the centre of Hiroshima (because located directly at the vertical under the impact of the bomb), it has been preserved in the state so Humanity always keeps in memory the effects of this terrible weapon. The view of this building freezes blood: pulled out metal beams, dome that remains of nothing more than the metal skeleton... To see in the park bomb close, the monument dedicated to children victims of the bomb cover permanently thousands of paper cranes made by the schoolchildren in the entire country. Very moving.
