The Otorii Gate is the undisputed symbol of Miyajima. This 16.8-meter-high, vermilion-lacquered camphor wood structure appears to be simply sitting on the sand (which is true, it is supported by its own weight). The main pillars are about 13.4 meters high and 9.9 meters in circumference, and the crosspiece is about 23.3 meters long. This large gate is located just 200 meters from the shrine and is accessible on foot at low tide. The present eighth torii was erected in 1875.

Impressive! We can see the door from the ferry before even arriving on the island. We waited for the end of the day and the Low Tide to approach us. It's really imposing. Cherry on the cake, a deer went through there at the time of the photo???
