GOJUNOTO - FIVE STOREY PAGODA

This beautiful pagoda was built in 1417. It is 27 meters high. Its appearance is very much influenced by the architecture of the Chinese Tang dynasty of that time. Its name is misleading because, although there are five levels of roofs, there is only one floor inside. This reflects typical Zen Buddhist construction techniques. This vermilion pagoda can be seen from far and near, no matter what angle. It is magnificent.

Beautiful 5-story red pagoda located on the heights of the ITSUKUSHIMA-JINJA SANCTUARY. Building not accessible on the visit.
