Lafcadio Hearn lived in this beautiful traditional house for a year. The house can be visited and it is a little wonder. The view of the garden from the tatami mats in the main room is enchanting. Right next to the residence, a museum (the Koizumi Yakumo Memorial Museum) is dedicated to him and displays some of his personal objects. Yakumo Koizumi is the Japanese name, or pseudonym, that Hearn adopted after he married a Japanese woman.
