LE PARC KASAMATSU
Visitors can also appreciate this magnificent green tombolo from afar, thanks to several viewpoints from the surrounding mountains. Kasamatsu Park is one of them. A funicular or chairlift takes you up to the top, a preferred option when the weather's fine (return ticket: ¥800/adult, ¥400/child). For 6 minutes, you can enjoy the ascent or descent, seated on small coloured chairs, while contemplating the view, which becomes more and more beautiful, more and more impressive. You then reach the Ama terrace, 130 metres above sea level. The panorama is truly magnificent, and it's easy to see why this is one of the country's three most famous views. Fun fact: this terrace is called Ama Terrace. When pronounced in Japanese, the name nods to Amaterasu, the Shinto goddess of the sun. It's also home to a confusing custom: matanozoki ! This ancestral tradition places visitors in a most peculiar position. You have to turn your back to the bay, lean forward (or even bend forward) and try to look between your legs at the "bridge to paradise". The tombolo then looks like a bridge floating in the sky, or a dragon fluttering between the clouds. A small souvenir store and a restaurant, with large picture windows, are also located on this terrace, where you can enjoy the view while sipping a hot drink.
