ZENTSUJI TEMPLE
Zentsuji Temple is the birthplace of one of the most revered figures in Japanese Buddhism, the high priest Kobo Daishi, or "Kukai". This temple is the Sohonzan, or main temple of the Shingonshu Zentsuji sect. Kobo Daishi built this temple upon his return from China in 807. Together with Toji Temple in Kyoto and Mount Koya in Wakayama, Zentsuji is considered one of the three sacred sites related to Kukai. This temple is the 75th of the 88 sacred temples in Shikoku. Under the hall, a 90-meter-long path in total darkness is offered to pilgrims.
