RITSURIN-KŌEN
Located 2 km south of the station, this park is backed by Mount Shiun. With an area of 75 hectares, it was part of the property of the Matsudaira clan, a family descended from the Tokugawa of Mito. The garden was designed in the 17th century. It is one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan and took 100 years to build. The northern part of the park looks more like a botanical garden, while the southern part is much more elaborate. It is in this part that the Kikugetsu-tei (moon chrysanthemum pavilion) is located, which alone sums up the style of Sukiya architecture.
