At the foot of the steps of Kompira-san is the oldest kabuki theater in Japan (1835). It has two hanamichi ramps, a revolving stage and dressing rooms. The moving part of the stage is operated by hand. It was converted into a cinema until 1965, and was restored in 1976. It is now a kabuki stage with a few performances during the year. Kabuki theater fans flock there in the spring for the Shikoku Konpira Kabuki Daishibai.
