CASTLE KOCHI-JO
Although built in 1603, the reconstruction of Kochi Castle dates from 1749. The building has five floors and an outer gallery. The kaitokukan (apartments) is located on the ground floor. Its Tenshukaku (dungeon) is one of the 12 authentic Tenshukaku preserved in its original form since the Edo period. The large Otemon Gate is also particularly well preserved. Fifteen structures in the castle, including its tower and Otemon, have been designated by the Japanese government as important cultural properties. A visit to this castle is a must.
