Built in 728, this temple is part of the pilgrimage circuit of the eighty-eight temples of Kūkai (No. 51). It is most notable for its Kamakura-style architecture and Nio Gate (listed as a national treasure), Kei school statues and pagoda. The temple houses a number of other famous buildings such as the main hall, the bell tower and the temple pagoda, which are classified as important cultural properties. Also of note is the presence of a goddess worshipped for safe childbirth and a mantra cave.
