This temple was built in the Kamakura period (13th century) in connection with the legend of the crossing of Tenjin to China. It is famous for its two gardens: one depicts an artificial land and sea using moss and white pebbles, and the other has several stones arranged to form the Chinese character of light, which refers to the halo of Buddha. Visitors flock to the site in early summer for the rhododendron flowers or in autumn to admire the warm colours.
