FORMER SHITSU HELP CENTER
In 1868, Father Marc Marie of Rotz, from Vaux-sur-Simonm, volunteered to evangelize Japan and went to Sotome. It founded a centre to assist the poor, especially for young women and a hospital. He bought land, importa seeds and fought against starvation. Later, he built a small factory of fishing nets. His mission continued by building a Chapel, Ono, for the inhabitants of the region, as well as the church of Shitsu. In the help centre you can still see vintage objects, including an old organ that is still in function. Father Marie de Rotz died in Nagasaki in 1914 as a result of a disease contracted in 1911.
