GLOVER GARDEN
Park – Garden

This park is home to Western-style houses that belonged to foreign residents during the Meiji period. Despite its Disneyland feel, both the history and the houses are interesting. The park is named after the most famous of them all, Thomas Blake Glover. At the end of the 19th century, the Scotsman arrived in Nagasaki, where he did some pioneering work. He established a mint, a printing press with movable type and, finally, a proper railroad. It is said that his life inspired the writing of Madame Butterfly.
