This pretty little town is located not far from Usa. It is home to Fukiji Temple (11th century), the oldest wooden structure in Kyūshū and one of the oldest in Japan. The Fukiji, a National Treasure, contains a precious cultural asset: a wooden statue of Buddha in his Amida guise, seated in a lotus. The architecture of this simple temple blends perfectly with nature. It is a beautiful example of Japanese aesthetics. Don't miss a visit to the Showa no Machi district, a tourist destination to discover one of the ancient faces of the country.
