This historic site was the headquarters of the former Japanese Navy for the entire Okinawa region. The interior of the shelter has been preserved as is, with bullet holes, including that of Commander Minoru Ota, who committed suicide. During World War II, Okinawa was the only part of Japan to experience a land battle. During the Battle of Okinawa, many civilians lost their lives. Part of this site is open to the public.
