This monument remains the most important and famous in Naha. It is one of a group of sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as Gusuku Sites and Associated Cultural Properties of the Kingdom of Ryūkyū. Dating from 1529, its double tile roof and beautiful wooden columns were inscribed as the Chinese Emperor's Gate of Etiquette. Once opened for the king to pray before traveling, it is a sacred place for the Japanese.
