Tsuboya is a picturesque neighborhood where traditional pottery (tsuboya-yaki) is made. This type of ceramic has been around since 1682. It features animal motifs, flowers and geometric shapes on a red or green background. In fact, it's more like earthenware, fired at low temperatures. There are two types of earthenware: jōyaki for everyday objects and arayaki for funeral urns. There are still more than twenty kilns in operation.
