Himeyuri No To is a monument that commemorates, first and foremost, the deaths of 222 students and 18 teachers who were enlisted by Japanese soldiers to care for the wounded and bury the dead. As a result, 136 of them lost their lives. Built in 1978, Himeyuri No To is a 12m high stone monument with an inscription commemorating the dead and inviting prayers for world peace. You will also find the Himeyuri Peace Museum and the Okinawa Peace Park.
