This hill was the scene of the last bloody battles in Okinawa. The entire area is part of the Okinawa Senseki Quasi-National Park, the only quasi-national park in Japan consisting of a former battlefield. The Okinawa National War Dead Cemetery, located at the top, houses the bones of those killed in the battle. A statue of three young men representing peace, friendship and love between teachers and students has also been erected there. The names of 235,000 people are engraved on white granite tables.
