MIYARADUNCHI HOUSE
This 1809 house, modelled on the lordly houses of the Ryuku Kingdom, belonged to Toen Miyara, a regent of Yaeyama. It has a dry garden and a tiled roof, although initially a reprimand from the feudal administration in 1874 required it to have a thatched roof. The abolition of the feudal system made it possible to return to the original roof. Today, the residence is a valuable historical site. It is designated as a cultural asset of national importance. The visitor has the impression of returning to the roots of Okinawa.
