DENBIGH CASTLE

Built at the request of Edward I in 1282 by Henry de Lacy, one of his chief commanders during his conquest of Wales. It was built in two parts, the second of which began in 1294. Today, the grandiose ruins of a 13th-century fortified castle remain, including three connecting towers (similar to those of Caernarfon Castle), atop a hill near Denbigh. We particularly recommend the 1 km walk along the ramparts, dating from 1282: the architecture is impressive and the views fabulous.
