The apartments of the metropolitan were regularly enlarged: the first floor, embedded in the hill, dates from the 16th century, the second floor from the 17th and the second from the 18th century. Finally, the "Czar's Palace" was added. It served as a temporary residence for Alexy I Mikhailovich (1629-1676), father of Peter the Great. He often came to the monastery with his retinue of 500 people. The palace is vast, decorated with many tiles of earthenware, including two beautiful stoves covered with this material.
