It was the last church built under Metropolitan Ionas in 1683. Situated above the Kremlin gate, it marks the entrance to the enclosure in the same way as his comrade the Church of the Resurrection. The staircase to reach it has thirty-three steps, a symbolic number that reminds the faithful of the number of years Jesus spent on earth. Once past the entrance of the church, we find the scenes of the Last Judgement described by Saint John.
