Eighteen kilometers west of Rostov Veliki, marking one of the main entrances to the St. Boris and St. Gleb Monastery, stands this ancient church (1545). Built by the very active local architect Grigori Borissov and commissioned by Metropolitan Jonas, it has the vague shape of a cube, dominated by the traditional five Russian domes (green this time) and two imposing hexagonal towers. This original composition was very successful and was used in many buildings in Rostov.
