PROPHET ELIJAH'S CHURCH
The 17th century corresponds to the golden age of Yaroslavl. Trade, then in full boom, makes it one of the most important places in Russia. The oldest and most representative part of the church dates from the beginning of this period, which the town wanted to celebrate with its five Byzantine domes, pyramid-shaped roofs and a sense of asymmetry as only the Russians could develop. The style is classical, the Muscovites underline "provincial classic" since at that time a rather renovating current began to circulate in the capital.
