THE ISBAS
You will find wooden houses all over the town of Souzdal. These are the famous Russian isbas. They are reached by a small path covered with boards. They were inhabited then by a family of peasants rather well off in the 20th century. It is in the covered courtyard that the working tools were stored, most often made of wood. The cattle were settled far from the house and often at the water's edge, because the houses were easily burned: the fault lies with the stove, essential to the life of the Russian peasant but also his worst enemy.
