This monastery, a Unesco World Heritage Site, was founded in 1352 by Prince Boris Konstantinovich and has a long history: it was once a prison for political prisoners. It is named after its first abbot, the monk Euthymius, who belonged to the circle of relatives of Saint Sergius of Radonezh. It houses many exhibitions, including a superb display of icons richly adorned with jewellery dating from the 18th to the 20th century (notably those of Simon Uchakov).
