The monastery can be reached from the central square, crossing a very pleasant forest road. The area around the monastery of St. Alexis was called "the village with the rooster", because there was a very large stone on which was placed a huge pair of rooster legs: a monument belonging to a pagan tribe that worshipped the animal.
Owned by the Russian Orthodox Church, the monastery has a second life as a women's monastery, especially known for a beautiful church of the beheading of St. John the Baptist.
