It was built in 1690 in front of the Resurrection Monastery and was erected by the Ugandan merchant Nikifor Chepolosov to honour the memory of his young son who was murdered by a rival of the merchant. During restoration work in the 1960s, a closed niche was found in the wall containing the child's relics, which have since been buried. Unfortunately, the church is now in a dilapidated state and remains closed to visitors.
