This rankless hero, who was forcibly conscripted and lost the Polish army in 1613 in the swampy forests at the sacrifice of his life, is represented as a peasant. His left hand holds a stick. His benevolent gaze is turned towards the protective river of the city. The monument we see today dates back to 1967. Another statue paying homage to him was previously located here. It depicted him kneeling as a sign of allegiance to Tsar Michael Romanov. It was replaced by this one, more in line with the socialist narrative.
