Built in the 14th century, it is the oldest preserved wooden building in Russia. The church was originally part of the monastery in Mourom, but was moved to Kiji in 1959. Its spiked roof with a tiny dome became a pilgrimage centre at the end of the 19th century, and it retains a unique example of its interior. The royal doors (16th century) depict the two saints, Vassili and Ivan, wearing an image of the Annunciation.
